First heard Jackie's voice (Doll by Doll) in the late 70s when I was 17 in Cheapo Cheapo Records in Soho where they were playing one the LPs. Soon after that proudly added Gypsy Blood and Remember to my record collection. Treasured these albums over the following decades. Went to see him play in The Musician in Leicester around 2008 or so and spoke briefly with him and shook his hand and bought a couple of CDs after. I absolutely loved that gig - one of my favourites and he was charming, entertaining, funny and of course very musical as you all know and expect. I was blown away 10 seconds into the first song. I thought of going to see him again a few years later (maybe 2015 or so) so started looking things up only to discover he had died a few years earlier. I felt so sad and my reaction was to play some of his music immediately so I grabbed a CD - when I opened it, written in marker pen across the sleeve were the words " David, God bless us all, Jackie. x" I was completely stunned by this as I had only just found out he died years earlier - it almost felt like he was talking to me from the grave. I had forgotten he signed this CD and it was a really difficult moment. I can't remember the exact dates now but I think I must have met him only a few months before he died, and he possibly knew he was unwell. I feel truly humbled by this great man and privileged to have had personal contact with him. God bless you Jackie. x

I've just read an article about this man by Ian Rankin. I'm a Scot and I've never heard of this man. What a voice! What a song! So glad I've found him. What a voice! Reminds me of David Hidalgo and Neil Young combined. Just beautiful.

I loved that Man. I saw him play so many times over the years, including his Jockstock Festivals. He was a Giant, a one-off character and a superb musician and performer

Joe's best ever rhythm section! Sorry Jaco, Peter, et al. Glad Joe could finally have found what he spent years looking for. He surely died - not long after this concert - in peace. RIP maestro.
